Photos 3 - Deep Space

With this image I was attempting to use a few depth cues to create deep space. Primarily with this one I was focused on textural diffusion, with the water. I think it works in part but, because this is choppy water, larger patches of textureless water in the background look somewhat similar to patches of textured water in the foreground, so I think its effect was somewhat minimized. The points of convergence also work here, along the banks. Size difference is interesting in this photo, because the log compared with the trees does provide depth, but the similar canopy ends up creating a flat plane in the background. I don't think this makes the photo flat, but it wan not something I had considered beforehand, and it had greater effect than I would have anticipated.

While I had some success and some drawbacks with deep space, I do like how the space interacts with the river to convey emotion. There is no specific subject, but the space stretching out across the surface of the dark water seems ominous. I feel I succeeded at that

This photo primarily uses convergence to indicate depth, but it also has textural diffusion (probably more effectively than the water), up down position, size difference, and also a bit of color contrast, though unintentional. I took a few photos here and, when I put my subject on the points of convergence, I found it was more effective to draw focus. I think these elements would be more effective if there was a more unified color scheme, so that the frame was more clear and less cluttered.

This photo is, once again, heavily reliant on convergence, with textural diffusion, and a little bit of overlap. I got three points of convergence here, so that's cool. While I think the river has a more effective emotion, I think that this image does a better job at conveying emotion using only deep space. I intended to create a sense of grandeur at a location that I thought deserving, and I feel I succeeded.

I adore these photos! Especially the second one!

For your first photo I think the log in the foreground is incredibly successful at beginning to indicate depth, but I agree that the canopy flattens the space a bit. If the exposure had been higher I think color contrast could have been on your side to create depth with the sky and trees being brighter and the water being dark.

This second photo has me staring for so long, I think deep space is cued so effectively here. The aisles themselves being so tall and converging to the center of frame, as well as the individual shelves along the walls providing further cues by moving toward the center and contributing to…

Nice photos! The first photo is so calming. I love how you used the log to become a vocal point for the audience. The log helps bring more depth into the center of the frame as well. To improve this photo, I think it would've been nice to see the center of the image ,lighter and the river, darker. That would've added even more depth into your photo.

For your second photo, I like how busy the image is. Because there's a lot of objects in your image, it emphasizes the deep space that you portray. I think it would've worked better if you moved your wife to the right side of the frame and moved your camera angle t…
