Arresting Images

With this picture I didn't want to tell a specific story, but rather show instantly that there is one. It is unclear what happened, but with the subject and camera angle, something definitely did. I wanted to create immediate interest in the subject. I chose not to have the glasses fully in focus to better fit with the subject of the photo, as whoever's glasses these are obviously aren't wearing them now.

This image was one that I created with the intention of using color and framing to evoke a mood. I used a dog because 1. I had one at hand, but 2. because they aren't typically imposing or threatening (at least not this one). So I wanted to convey that mood with a subject that works against it. If I did this again I would play more with the lighting and exposure, as it ended up a bit dark. I also would have liked to have the image more in the background rather than the direct focus, as I think it would have accomplished my goal better.

With this photo I wanted to play with color and symmetry to evoke a mood. I think it does so well enough, but I wish I had used a lighter table, so the image didn't come out so dark (not underexposed, necessarily, just dark). I also struggled to get the image without casting a shadow or being in the reflection, and so the result is not quite as clean as I would have liked to capture.

Harry? Harry Potter? That's what I think of whenever I see glasses on the ground. That first image is full of intrigue, but also because of the warm sun behind it I'm not sure if something bad has happened or something very positive? I know it's a candid angle, but maybe there is something that changed in this character's life that was good?

Two. The dog is actually pretty scary. I wish there was a tiny bit more backlight, or that the wall wasn't as bright since it draws my eye away from the dog. But you definitely succeeded at making me a little afraid...

Three. Super fun shadows, the shutter speed was maybe just not sharp enough to capture…

I love the picture of the glasses on the ground! When I first looked at it, I thought the motive of your image was to raise suspicion to if someone died or if someone got into a car accident. That was an awesome way to portray uncertainty!
